Galen Frantz

Galen has been with Glades Crop Care since 1981. He is a Senior Crop Management Specialist and the Quality Assurance Officer for our GLP studies. Galen holds a B.S. in Entomology from Michigan State University, graduating cum laude. His multiple responsibilities include IPM practice and research in vegetable, ornamentals, citrus and field crops, Food Safety, and GPS. He conducts and supervises evaluation of efficacy and GLP trials. In addition, Galen is a Certified Food Safety Auditor, a Board Certified Entomologist through the Entomological Society of America, and holds a Florida Commercial Applicator Restricted Use Pesticide License with Crop Advisor Exemption.

Galen's long history of experience and expertise includes a lengthy list of industry seminar participation as well as many articles that he has prepared and/or presented on insect, disease, and weed control issues. In addition, Galen has been one of the principal investigators of our SBIR Phase I & II, PMAP Research Project and PESP Research Project. Our PMAP (Pest Management Alternatives Grant) describes significant progress by our South Florida growers in dealing with FPQA requirements.

Galen is credited, among many other things, for the discovery of Thrips palmi in the continental United States, and has twice received the Florida State Horticultural Society's Presidents Industry Award, and also, the Florida Entomological Society Achievement Award for Industry. Galen is a member the NAICC, Entomological Society of America, Florida Entomological Society and Florida State Horticultural Society. Many of Galen's articles, including software to technically identify the thrips species of vegetables in the United States, and professionally accredited published papers can be found on the Glades Crop Care website. He is a charter member of Glades Crop Care's Management Advisory Task Force. Galen is married with two daughters and a son and obviously, very busy.
